Amit: A Life of Strength, Love, and Unbreakable Spirit

On January 22nd, 2025, in the quiet hours of the early morning, my sweet younger brother, Amit, took his final breath. He had fought cancer with unmatched courage for 351 days—days filled with battles, hope, and unwavering love. Though cancer tried to take so much from him, it never took his spirit. Amit smiled through the pain, joked through the struggles, and held onto life with a strength that will forever inspire me.

I had written about his journey from pain to diagnosis, never imagining that I would now be writing about his passing. But this is not a story of loss alone—it is a celebration of an incredible life, a tribute to a warrior who fought till the very end.

351 Days of Strength

From the moment of his diagnosis, Amit made a choice—not to let cancer define him. In those 351 days, he endured 23 rounds of chemotherapy, 21 sessions of radiation, 5 blood transfusions, 1764 tests, 11 emergency visits, 83 doctor appointments and consistently 7-8 pain level with strong pain killers. He faced each treatment, each setback, each moment of pain with resilience and a quiet determination. He never let despair take over. Even on the hardest days, he found reasons to smile, to laugh, and to keep fighting.

The last couple of months were particularly difficult. In early December, his health started to decline rapidly. Ascites—the buildup of fluid in his abdomen—became a relentless challenge. At first, the fluid had to be drained every five days, then every four, and soon, we were removing nearly two liters every single day. Each procedure took a toll, throwing his sodium levels off balance. At the same time, his liver started to struggle, and his bilirubin levels rose, making every little thing more complicated.

A Family’s Relentless Fight for Hope

Despite the rapid decline, Amit’s fight wasn’t just his own—it was ours too. My cousins, who I will forever be in debt to, worked tirelessly to find a clinical trial that could give him another chance. They made countless phone calls, filled out endless forms, registered him at multiple research facilities, and followed up relentlessly. What should have taken two months, we somehow achieved in two weeks. Together, we did the impossible.

But the cruel reality of cancer is that sometimes, even when you fight with everything you have, the body has its own limits. His liver started failing, making him ineligible for most clinical trials due to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. It was devastating. Despite our efforts, time was slipping away from us.

His Final Days: Love, Laughter, and Peace

As his condition worsened, Amit lost his mobility. Yet, he never lost his smile. Even when he couldn’t move, even when speaking became difficult, he still found a way to share a joke, to comfort us when we should have been comforting him. That was Amit—always thinking of others, always making sure we were okay, even as his own body was failing him.

In his final days, he was surrounded by love—his closest family and friends by his side. Hospice care became a place where we could simply be with him, holding his hand, telling stories, laughing at old memories, cherishing every moment we had left. Amit didn’t leave this world alone—he left wrapped in love, in the presence of those who adored him.

A Brother, A Warrior, A Legacy

Amit wasn’t just my younger brother. He was my friend, my support, my heart. He lived with kindness, with laughter, and with a resilience that inspired everyone around him. He showed us all how to fight, not just against illness, but against fear, against despair, against anything that tries to take away our joyHis journey may have ended, but his legacy will live on—in every life he touched, in every memory we cherish, in every moment we continue to fight for those who are still battling.

I am so incredibly proud of my brother.

He may not be with us physically, but his strength, his laughter, and his love will forever be a part of usRest easy, Rest in peace, Bro!. You fought like a warrior, and you will always be our hero. 💙
